The hanging feeders have been in our house's rain shadow for years. Brady built the tree-mounted combination bird and squirrel feeder in early September 2000. Photos by Dave Hart.
March 2003: We have moved the throne squirrel feeder from one gargantuan western red cedar to another, to the original location of the two hole feeder pictured above. The squirrels really love the throne, and it is much easier to refill now, as it is only 7 feet off the ground. We are now working on a 20 foot squirrel bungee.
March 2003: Beautiful and audacious Varied Thrushes have been calling our backyard home. They hang out on our back porch, under the protection of the awning. The male is more furiously colored than the female. The orange, blue and black male often exhibits an odd behavior around our back porch windows. It will walk up to the base of the window, then fly up vertically, thwapping the window triumphantly at his highest point. The thrushes have a variety of beautiful calls, and are often seen foraging for grubs and worms by flipping the ground debris up in front of their head with their feet and catching the goodies in the air. Though they are a constant presence, it has proven extremely hard to get a good photo of these thrushes. The Quest is On!
