This sophisticated vessel was created using a "plungeware" technique in which the vessel is plunged while still hot into a vat of water, creating a crackled pattern over the surface of the piece. In this example, an amber plungeware layer is cased inside of a lunar exterior layer in spectacular sparkly aventurine green glass.  A gold colored glass lip wrap tops it off.  A clear glass stand is included, but this amphora could also be displayed in a ring stand.

This Seattle artist gains a sense of freedom to experiment from the knowledge that any pieces that he chooses not to sign and exhibit will be sold on their own aesthetic and technical merits. Photographs truly do not do these objects justice.  I feel that the high bidders for this round of unsigned art glass will be pleasantly surprised by the complexity, thoughtfulness of design and the level of precision represented in these vessels.

This piece was produced by a professional glass artist living in the Seattle area.   Signed works by this artist are shown in Seattle and Pacific Northwest galleries and are sold for many hundreds of dollars.  He is very selective in choosing which pieces to sign.  An inconsistency in pattern, a bubble, a form that is not what he sought, imperfect color play, or any small feature of production that belies anything less than the perfection sought, and the piece goes unsigned. Often a piece that represents a major step in the creative learning process does not fit well into a series of works.  These pieces will often go unsigned as well.
