Plungeware pieces are subjected to the repeated process of plunging the hot glass into cold water to force the contraction and violent cracking of the outermost clear layer of glass, and returning the piece to the glory hole, resulting in a great textured surface which nicely magnifies the Aventurine Green glass layer underneath.

This piece was produced by a professional glass artist living in the Seattle area.   Signed works by this artist are shown in Seattle area galleries and are sold for many hundreds of dollars.  He is very selective in choosing which pieces to sign.  An inconsistency in pattern, a bubble, a form that is not what he sought, imperfect color play, or any small feature of production that belies anything less than the perfection sought, and the piece goes unsigned.

Condition Report for this piece:

This vase has no condition problems.  No chips, cracks, or scratches. See pictures.  This piece was not aesthetically what the artist sought.  During the repeated process of plunging the hot glass into cold water to force the contraction and violent cracking of the outermost clear layer of glass, and returning the piece to the glory hole, some of the aventurine green layer contracted too much, revealing the black glass underneath.  So this is a by product of ordered chaos glass production.  In this example the chaos won out over the order, just enough to bring this stunning piece into your price range.  There are no chips, cracks, or scratches.
