For 2003, Dave and I have made a linear trellis which should become loaded with peas, beans, climbing spinach and various climbing flowers.
Brady's Vegetable Garden
2002 was the second year I have grown a vegetable garden on brother Lee's property in Juanita. Our grandmother Hart pointed out the spot for a garden when Lee first acquired the land, and I took up the challenge to grow some good veggies. Last year we greatly enjoyed the peas fresh off the trellis, so this year I wanted to have a large trellis, while still maintaining a lot of growing area for other plants. The solution I came up with is an arched tunnel spanning the two planting strips. We should be able to stand in the grass between the furrows and pick the peas easily. The "Peas Arch" is 20 feet long, 7 foot high at the tallest point and has 5'8" headroom at it's lowest point. I thought about it for a while before heading out to construct it in one day with $35.00 worth of PVC pipe. I'll post some more pictures when the peas start to cover my structure.
