Surfing Montelimar, Nicaragua 2002

While on the annual healthcare mission I attend in Central America each winter, I find a little time to appreciate the latitude.  In 2002, I took out an 11.5 foot sailboard to use as a surfboard in the warm Pacific break at Montelimar, the surf was small, but the board was big enough to make it work.  I got more stand up rides in two hours than I had in my life prior to that day.

Next Year, in 2003, I aim to head south to San Juan del Sur, where a boat taxi will hopefully ferry me to a reef break used to film Endless Summer.  Anticipation hurts. 

 

Well, a year went by and I made it to San Juan del Sur, but alas never made the time for the boat taxi ride out to the reef break.  I did take in some shore break flailing at Madera Beach while in San Juan, but I will dream of the reef break for another year.  See photos from the 2003 San Juan del Sur visit.
